bad karma

If I believed in karma I'd say it was bad karma to complain about my chickens in that last post. I no longer have any chickens. None. All three gone within three days. I have decided two things: 1) chickens are way too dumb to be free range, and 2) never trust your kids to take care of chickens.

Two of the chickens disappeared in one day, in the middle of the day, and we had no idea what happened to them. The next day some yard guys that work in our neighborhood told us that the day before they saw two chickens wandering down the road. What?? They never left the yard before and one day they decide to go on a little field trip? So I can only assume that they couldn't find their way back (way too stupid) and got eaten by a friendly neighborhood fox or coyote that night. The next evening Coleman didn't lock up the one remaining chicken and it disappeared sometime during the night. No surprise there, but come on people, do I have to tell them EVERY night?

So I think we're going to start over with some chickens that have never been free range so they won't know the difference when we keep them locked in a small area. Maybe they'll stay in the pen instead of trying to get out. Keep your fingers crossed for us. This will be our third attempt at keeping chickens.

Don't be beat by the chickens!! Do NOT surrender! You CAN be a successful chicken keeper, but just in case you REALLY want to know what is going on in their tiny little feathered heads, try watching Chicken Run!! It'll give you some good insights into the thought processes of the fowl brain...
